If you want to wind back the clock a couple of years to give you back your youthful appearance then you are lucky to be in this time and age. The advancement in technology and surgical practice provides you with a number of options. But two of the popular procedures that we are going to look into are Surgical Face Lift and PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma therapy. Although they have the same aim, but the process that is involved are stark contrasts to each other.
A surgical face lift is the traditional way of aggressively erasing ages from your facial skin. Medically known as rhytidectomy, it removes excess fats, sagging skin, and it tightens the muscles beneath the skin and the ones one the neck. Not only will you have a more youthful appearance, but a more defined one as well.
The results of a surgical face lift will last for many years with the exact length depending on the condition of the skin and the age of the patient. Some may have their facelift re-done 7 years into the future while others can take up to 15 years before they deem it fit for a revision.
Unfortunately due to its invasive nature, a surgical face lift has a number of risks and possible complications. This include, infection, bleeding, scarring, hematoma, anesthesia risk, facial nerve injury, fat necrosis (tissue death), swelling, and even hair loss at the incision site.
You need to take two-three weeks to recuperate and at least 3 months before you do any major social engagements.
Because of the degree of work that has to be done and the expertise required for it to turn out successful, a full surgical face lift in Australia can cost $15,000. On top of that are other fees such as consultation fee, anesthesia fee, theatre fee and the cost for post-operative medications.
But if you want to have that dramatic youthful improvement, this is the perfect option for you.
For those who dont want the invasiveness of the typical face lift procedure, Platelet Rich Plasma is a good option. It is a nonsurgical face lift method which uses your own blood to rejuvenate your skin.
The process involves the extraction of blood through a vein on the anterior portion of your forearm. This will be done by the surgeon or a phlebotomist. Then the container is placed on a centrifuge for spinning in order to separate the platelet rich plasma from the red blood cells and white blood cells.
The separated platelets are then extracted in a syringe, ready for administration. A couple of injections on the problem areas will leave you with a younger looking skin. This includes the forehead, areas around the eyes, cheeks, jawline, neck, chest, the back of the hands, and dcolletage.
The reason why plasma is an effective anti-aging agent is because it triggers a process both on the outer and inner structures of the skin which is similar to wound healing. This results to collagen regeneration, neo-vascularization and extracellular matrix formation.
It therefore plumps up the skin while smoothening it at the same time. So it basically acts like a filler. But unlike the popular names out in the market, PRP does not create any allergic reaction because it came from your own body.
And because the process does not involve any intricate manipulation of the skin tissue and other underlying structures, this procedure is less expensive than the surgical face lift.
The side effects are minimal, which includes redness, swelling and bruising near the treated area. But it is usually relieved within 2-3 days.
Due to its less invasive approach, the results are not as dramatic as its surgical counterpart. So if you want that significant stretch and lifting, this is not the procedure for you. However it creates a subtle natural-looking result that doesnt appear too overdone.
Compared to surgical face lift, PRP is less expensive. But if you want to maintain the results, you would need a touch-up after 18 months because it usually lasts that long.
So choose wisely and carefully weigh the pros and cons of each procedure. If scalpels and incisions are not your thing then choose a PRP, but if you want a more significant change that can last for a couple of years, then a surgical face lift would be most appropriate.
